I am discarding my old Windows XP pc and using a slightly newer one with windows 10 new install.

I have copied all my barcoding files across.

I have had to upgrade from BT 8.01 to the new current  BT Basic 2016.

When I open my old files it has a red cross on the barcode, and states

Encoding Error: The selected symbology doe snot support the following characters: ' '

When I go ahead and print it comes up with error 3753

but I click strip and continue and it does go head and print.

Please can someone explain what I should do? Should I just leave it?

Did you set a space character as part of the barcode's data source?  In the new versions of BarTender we've tightened up on data validation for barcodes - hence the message.  Either only enter in numeric data for the barcode, or set the validation rules for the data source, under the "Transforms" tab, to only allow numeric data.  Thus the message should be avoided.
