We are new to BarTender and were most impressed that you could have designs that can be printed with Print Station without needing to access the "edit" features of the Bar Tender Software.

By way of explaining the question we have, let me just tell you our scenario, which I doubt is unique.

We have a small team who design labels for our customers for our manufacturing site. On the factory floor, we have machine operators who are producing the product and want to print off the required label for the customer.

Currently, all the customers labels are stored in a folder called <customers name> and inside that folder the operative can find whatever product code the customer is currently having manufactured and thus print off the correct label.

We don't want the factory staff to change the designs of the labels in any way. Any alterations are done by the design team.

When we saw Print Station, we were pleased because it meant that the machine operation can simply open the design and print it. However, the problem is that ALL the labels need to be stored in a root folder and it won't recognise folders.

Have we missed something vital, or is the print station limited to only being able to print labels in one folder? Can you advise please?

Hello,

Unfortunately the Print Station companion application is only able to display BarTender documents from a single specified folder (no sub-folders yet). The following items should be noted:

• A command line argument can be used when launching Print Station to allow showing files from a specific path. This can be used to create shortcut files which each display a different folder.

• When selecting a folder inside the Desktop or Documents folder, it will be relative to the current user profile. This allows separate users to each have their own set of BarTender documents visible in Print Station.

• Print Station will now respect file security settings, and will not show files which cannot be opened by the current user. This is another method of implementing user-specific views.

The ability to source BarTender documents from multiple folders and sub-folders in Print Station is in our system as a feature request. It is a much requested feature, so hopefully will be implemented without too much delay.

Many thanks for your prompt reply!!

Could you tell us the format of the command line argument needed? I think this would provide us with a temporary solution until the feature is included.

And please list us with those that would like that feature!! In fact, we were surprised that it wasn't in there, as we thought it was such a basic format used in Windows Operations.

Many thanks again.
